Happy New Year everyone, and may 2o12 bring you all you ever wished for – health and love and happiness and lots of great books to read. :)

I don’t normally sit down and write my resolutions for the year, but I thought to sketch them briefly, mainly for myself so that I can whine when I don’t follow up. ;)

My plans are modest. Relatively.

I have a novella (futuristic m/m erotic romance) and a novel (sci-fi m/m erotic romance) that are in need of an ending and revisions. So I must get around to doing that ASAP!

I have several short stories (m/m erotic romance) that need ending, revision etc.

I have ideas for novels that want to get written! These include Book 2 of Storm Chronicles (aka sequel of The Falcon and the Jackal) and a vampire novel that has been on my mind since September.

And I will be happy if I do these things over the next months!

What are YOUR writerly goals for 2012?

“And I saw an angel coming down out of heaven, having the key to the Abyss and holding in his hand a great chain. He seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil, or Satan, and bound him for a thousand years.” Rev 20: 1-2

I used to be a good Catholic girl.

That was a long time ago. :) Since then, I’ve sinned and not repented. Thankfully, bad girls go everywhere…

I always had a fascination with angels. Not so much because I prayed to them for protection, but more because I wanted to know who the heck they were!

Call me curious…

I mean, forgive me for my candor, but we’re not just talking emanations of God here, we’re talking an army fighting in heaven, casting Satan into a pit, falling from high out of pride or love, striding about and announcing doomsday events, and even fighting among each other where mere mortals can see them on staircases leading to heaven… (Jacob’s vision)

Who were those guys? Are they still around, still fighting, still obeying God’s every command, struggling to keep Satan in the Pit and occasionally failing Him, too human, too weak in the face of attraction and love to remain up high? Do they still Fall?

Well, do they?

And all the demons obeying Beelzebul, Satan himself, weren’t they angels once? If their essence was so noble and pure, can they be really evil? Is there no redemption? Isn’t love the answer?

In both canonical and apocryphal texts, we see many different perspectives on the legends on the fall and the nature of angels, showing us creatures who are far from perfect, albeit beautiful and wise. Angels speak the will of God, bring devastation or joy, like good little soldiers.

That gave me interesting ideas. Soldiers. A military regime. Monastic and strict lifestyle. Any physical desire is a sin to be punished and regretted. Angst. Rebellion.

Sex. :)

I do love it when they give in. I’m a cruel author.

Hence I set out to write a number of stories recording my own personal vision of angels Falling. And they Fall in such fascinating ways.

Because I thought, you know, angels, in the writings, never fell for other angels. They crave what is truly forbidden, and different. According to the scriptures, they fell for mortal women.

But demons are far more interesting as love interests. Fallen angels themselves, they are they ones who have already given into desire and need. They are tragically doomed by their choices, serving Hell and suffering the consequences, yet unrepentant and beautiful. They are the epitome of bad, sexy boys in leather. Who wouldn’t love them?

You do see where I’m going with this…

I threw together angels – handsome, repressed and aching with unfulfilled desire –  with demons – sexy, bad-ass, cool guys – and waited for the fireworks.

They were beautiful together. I had fun and so I secured for myself a little piece of “heaven”. :)

Who isn’t fascinated by angels and demons? Erotic romance writers certainly are! :) We can’t resist the chance to toy with such heavenly or fallen creatures, all beautiful beyond imagining and fighting or succumbing to temptation.

This is our playground! :)

With this in mind, a group of writers of erotic romance got together and organized a blog tour to talk about our fascination with angels and demons, and about our stories where they star.

Starting tomorrow, on this blog, we launch this tour with author Misty Malone (author at Phaze press) introducing us to the concepts and the whole idea behind the tour, as well as to the participants and the programme of the tour – for your pleasure! :)

Each day, for two exciting weeks, known authors of erotica will be blogging, one each day, on their blogs. By the end, you will know as much about angels and demons as about wonderful stories featuring them.

AND, at the end, on 30th Nov, we will conclude and one lucky commenter will win books from all of us. :)

So, tune in, starting tomorrow, to this blog and follow us as we tour great authors’ websites and discuss great stories. See you there! :)

Happy Sunday everyone!  :)   Today I give you another snippet from my recently released m/m fantasy novella Song of Love and War, featuring Suresh, a beautiful elf warrior, and Thane, a dashing human soldier. Last week, Thane witnessed Suresh being attacked by human men and fight them back. Afterward, Suresh appeared to be in pain, but when Thane asked him if he was all right, the elf brushed him off and left.

Here is what happened next, this time from Suresh’s point of view:

Suresh stumbled through the roof garden, and made it to the bench under the potted olive trees before his legs gave out. He fell on the bench with a groan, pressing a hand against his chest. What was wrong with him? The wounds were almost healed, the iron bullets out. The effects of iron poisoning should be lessening, not getting worse.

Just breathe. Keep breathing.

More to come next sunday – stay tuned! :)

Available at Amber Allure Press

… Cobblestone Press! :-)

First of all, let me say I love this publisher. They have published so far a novel, a novella and a short story of mine. Their editors are excellent, their cover artists fabulous, the organisation and attitude impeccable.

Second, let me say I love this story. Don’t get me wrong, I love all my stories and all my characters. But there is something about this one – I don’t know, a sense of urgency and desperation and courage and fierce love that gets me.

Yes, I know that I wrote it.

Yes, okay, fine. I shouldn’t review my own work.

But the thing is, I just love these boys.

Tristan: golden werewolf, abused in his past, fiercely loyal to Jade, willing to sacrifice himself time and again

Jade: golden werewolf, stopped from becoming King of the Golden Clan through magic, in love with Tristan and willing to submit, even if his body disagrees and wants to dominate

Sorrel: silver werewolf, unjustly sought for murder and prevented from becoming King of the Silver Clan through magic, willing to submit to love, even if it happens in the face of a vampire, a species who is enemy to the werewolves

Marcel: vampire, willing to share his magic in exchange for being saved from loneliness, and falling for Sorrel

What has Tristan done to save Jade? What is Jade’s body telling him to do? Why is Sorrel accused of murder, and what spell binds him to Jade? Does Marcel know the answer and can he help them?

These and many more questions! All answered in the end, I promise. This is a novella, about 30K, and is due to come out in the next months. I will keep you updated and post cover art as soon as I have it!

Jay Welcome, Becca! I am very happy to have you here, and a little nervous, because I have loved your stories since I first started reading M/M pairings and erotica about ten years ago. I always go back and reread them, both the fanfiction and the original fiction. You are my muse, the reason I ever thought of writing such stories myself, and I am very privileged to have you as my blog guest today. Thank you for accepting my invitation!

Could you tell us a little about yourself? When and why did you start writing?

Becca: Since I was a kid.  My mom enjoyed writing and, like most daughters, I wanted to be just like her.  Usually, we grow out of that stage, but I never did.  There was a long period between my early teens and college years when I went back and forth between art and writing.  Writing finally won.

Jay What genre(s) do you write and why?

Becca: I write what I read, which works out to be, pretty exclusively, science fiction and fantasy.  Escapism has always been my motivation for curling up with a book, so the further from reality, the better. I prefer reading stories with good plots, action, fully thought-out, believable worlds, and a strong thread of romance running through it all.  Most of my pairings these days fall under the category of homoeroticism, but I occasionally write het, as well.

Jay What are your current projects?

Becca: I’m producing four chapters a month for SL Publishing Group’s subscription site (http://slpublishinggroup.com/shop/): Daggersphere 2: The Sacred Core and a sequel to Cethe, Dreams of Fire.  I’m supposed to be working on Daggersphere for publication next year.  That one is going slowly since I’m completely reworking it.  Anyone who read it on the subscription site will find it very much changed when it reaches book form.  I gave a more general fantasy romance in the works, as well – with both a het and gay couple.  I’d like to try my hand at an urban fantasy, but who h as time?

Jay I had heard of this publishing system, where readers can follow along as the writer creates the story. I think it’s fascinating! Tell me, what do you find particularly challenging about writing?

Becca: At this point – original plots. I have favorite themes I gravitate toward and have to consciously move away from them.  Pacing is another challenge, especially when working with subscription fiction.  There is no going back and re-writing, so you have to have a fairly good grasp of what’s going to happen and when as you go along.  For someone who’s accustomed to stopping and starting, deleting and rewriting, that can be tough.

Jay Are character names important to you? How do you name the characters in your stories?

Becca: Pick ‘em out the air, mostly.  If I want a name to have a particular flavor, I’ll sometimes Google a country and skim through their English-language newspapers until I find a cool-sounding name.  One thing I do – and should guard against – is latch onto names beginning with the same letter.

Jay I know what you mean! Most of my characters’s names start with “J”. What inspires you?

Becca: Random stuff: scenery, television documentaries, someone passing with a strange expression on his face, riffing on weird ideas with my friends or crazy sister (who has the misfortune of living with me).  Weather, dreams…

Jay Which was your favorite story, ever? (could be one of yours!)

Becca: My favorite story is actually a series – the Morgaine series by CJ Cherryh.  Love it.  For years, I would read all four books once year, just to remind myself how a real writer does it!  The hero was young, tormented and angst-ridden (who landed in a few slashy situations); and the heroine a tormented, kick-ass, angst-ridden woman, older than the hero and very much in charge.  It’s also a series that reads like fantasy, but is, at its heart, science fiction.  Yum.

Jay Marking it on my to-buy list then! Can you tell us a few words about any (or many!) of your stories/novellas/novels?

Becca: At the moment I have one novel, Cethe, published.  It’s available on my publisher’s website.  http://slpublishinggroup.com/shop/ (It’s also on Amazon, but those sharks take a big percentage, so support your dedicated yaoi/slash bookseller online!) You can read the first two chapters on http://beccaabbott.com/original/cethe01.php .

The original fic site also has a complete, free novel: Reifu Rising.

Next year, Daggersphere is scheduled for publication.  That book is science fiction and the first in a projected series.  It will be tied loosely into the Reifu Rising Universe, although I can’t go into exactly how.  There will be indentured slaves, assassins and mystery.  And smut.

I have one more site, http://becca.slashcity.net/index.html, that houses most of my fanfic  (Highlander, Queen of Swords, Dr. Who [Paul McGann's Doctor], Gundam Wing, Moonchild, and Ai No Kusabi).

Jay Note to all readers out there: Don’t miss these stories! They are simply amazing – both original and fanfiction and Reifu Rising is among my current favorites – until I go and subscribe to Cethe, that is. Becca, do you have any advice for other writers?

Becca: Yep.  Write.  Write all the time.  Write when you feel like it; write when you don’t.  Even if the muse has deserted you and all you come up with is crap, keep going.  It’s the constant writing that pays off in the end.  Also, remember that writing is as much a craft as it an art.  Raw talent only gets you so far.  Grammar, spelling, punctuation, sentence structure – these things do matter.  Learn the rules before you break them.

Jay Becca, thank you very much for this interview. I am privileged to have my personal muse on my blog today. You’ve been the greatest influence on my writing. Thank you for writing.
